Mavizon Mavia links your car to your phone and the cloud

Roadtrippers with a smartphone, pay attention - because Mavia, a new gadget from Mavizon can turn your car and phone into a super-connected cloud enabled engine monitoring tool.

Mavia consists of a special OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics) dongle, mobile apps and an online portal. Every car produced since 1996 has one of these ports, making the product very easy to install.

The product offers many of the same features found in that other famous connected car service that rhymes with "schmon-star" - which means Mavia can send out alerts if you have been in an accident, track the location of your vehicle, perform online diagnostics and even send you service coupons for discounts on maintenance.

Mavia is not yet available for purchase, but it has created enough of a buzz to win first place at this years iStage at the Consumer Electronics Show. To use Mavizon, you can use any mobile phone with an Internet browser, or access the information through dedicated iPhone or Android apps.

Columbia Omni-Heat Circuit Breaker Softshell electric / heated ski jacket review

It's a mouthful of a name, but Columbia's new Circuit Breaker Softshell heated jacket is exactly the kind of hardware that avid winter adventurists and residents of frigid locales have been clamoring for. Heated gear has been around for awhile, but older implementations have generally been prohibitively expensive, extremely bulky and short on life. Reviews have generally been mixed, and the cold weather world at large has really been waiting for battery and charging technologies to advance to a point where a heated jacket could be taken seriously. The Omni-Heat Circuit Breaker is it.

This coat is one of three new launches from Columbia for next ski season (it's slated to go on sale to the public on October of 2011), accompanied by a pair of Omni-Heat electric boots and a set of electric gloves. For this review, we're going to focus on the most sophisticated of the three: the Circuit Breaker Softshell jacket, albeit a pre-production version that may be altered ever-so-slightly prior to October. Was a jacket filled with heating elements able to keep our core satisfactorily warm during a frigid snowmobile trip through northwestern Montana and during a near-blizzard at Whitefish Mountain Resort? Ten destinations to skip in 2011

The new year breeds thousands of new top ten lists. The top places to see from the geniuses at the New York Times. The top best cruises from the cruserati at Frommers. Top bloggers with top status opining on the top new places that you should visit. Hey, we're guilty of that at Gadling too, but we have to go where the hits lead us.

Fact of the matter is though, you can have a great time in almost any destination. Find the right people, open the right bottle of wine, dig through enough piles of tourists and eventually everyone finds their comfort zone, whether in Wichita or in West Africa.

That said, there are corners of this planet that we, as well-heeled travel writers are just darn tired of. Whether it's from overexposure from the media or personal experiences, certain places just make our skin crawl, and in 2011, we're steering clear.

The graffiti is practically arty in it's framing, colors, and even the tears in the paint seem thoughtful and eye-catching.

Ralph Gilles nos deja atónitos: El próximo Viper, inspirado en una mujer desnuda en la playa

¿Cómo es eso? ¿Pero qué mente calenturienta tiene el jefe de diseño de Chrysler? Bueno, la verdad es que si nos imaginamos una mujer tumbada boca abajo en la playa, con su trasero respingón, y nos hacemos a la idea de cómo se podría traducir esto a un coche, nos imaginamos unas caderas bien marcadas, y unas líneas fluídas, cual botella de CocaCola (que usa una inspiración similar, por cierto).

Más allá de lo que cuente Gilles, lo cierto es que tendremos que esperar a 2013 para poder ver a este nuevo Viper, así que ármate de paciencia, y ¡deja de hacer volar tanto tu imaginación!

Fotos espía del Maserati "pequeño"

Como bien sabes, Maserati trabaja para tener un modelo por debajo del Quattroporte con el que plantar cara a coches como el Serie 5 de BMW o la Clase E de Mercedes. Parece que por primera vez los fotógrafos espía se han hecho con unas instantáneas de la mula de pruebas que la casa del tridente está utilizando para poner a punto su nuevo producto.

Si te preguntas por qué sabemos que se trata de un modelo más pequeño es porque no has prestado atención a las imágenes: revisa cómo las ruedas se pegan a la parte trasera del paso de rueda, demostrando una batalla claramente más reducida que la súper-berlina deportiva que ahora vende Maserati.

Dicen que debutará en 2012, pero la verdad es que dado el estado de desarrollo actual, parece que falta mucha tela por cortar todavía.

Mugen Ariel Atom

Contando con motor Honda, esto era cuestión de tiempo. Ariel ha asociado fuerzas con el preparador nipón para ofrecer el Mugen Ariel Atom, que además sirve como celebración del décimo aniversario del modelo. Con 270 caballos en sus ruedas traseras, esta edición especial y limitada es capaz de machacar la frontera de los 100 kilómetros hora en menos de 3 segundos.

Sólo se fabricarán 10 unidades, así que ya puedes darte prisa si quieres cazar una al vuelo.
